Today, the same items cost just under R5,000, an almost 25% increase. In October 2020, the survey was expanded to include prices from Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Springbok in the Northern Cape. It previously only collected prices in Pietermaritzburg. The number of items in the basket was also expanded from 38 to 44 items during this expansion.
