Quick take: Africa doubles Covid-19 vaccines with donations from US
Before the United States began its vaccine deliveries to the African continent, Covax had delivered 25.9 million vaccine doses between February and June.
Since July, the US has doubled this number, donating almost 30-million vaccines to two-thirds of the continent.
After delays in Covax deliveries to African countries, the African Union stepped in with its African Vaccine Acquisition Trust, which purchased vaccines from Johnson & Johnson on behalf of member states.
