With storms continuing to batter the Western Cape, rainfall records are being broken. Kirstenbosch botanical gardens in Cape Town had recorded 76mm in 24 hours by Wednesday morning, and 79mm by 8am on Thursday, according to the South African Weather Service.

Kirstenbosch in Newlands is Cape Town’s wettest weather station. Its monthly average for July is usually 247mm.

Other areas in the province have also been hard hit by high winds and torrential rain. By 8am on Thursday, Ceres had received 293mm in 10 days, Grabouw 289mm, Paarl 254mm and Jonkershoek 250mm.
